Itinerary: Great Migration Safari

Infinite Safari Adventures - Itinerary: Grand Migration Safari - africa safari

Day 1: On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha, Infinite Safari Adventures representatives will meet you and take you to Rivertrees Country Inn, a wonderful converted old coffee farm a half hour from the airport. This beautiful resort was the former home of the lodge owner (who is related to the Von Trapp family). There is a pool as well as pleasant grounds to walk around, monkeys in the trees and massage and Wi-Fi facilities.

Day 2: After a leisurely breakfast on the terrace, drive to Tarangire National Park four hours away and stay at Oliver’s Luxury Tented Camp. Once you stay here you will not want to leave. This camp has huge multi-room tents, en suite bathrooms and a dining tent set squarely in the bush. This camp was built with love and sweat by the famous Tanzania guide Paul Oliver and still has his love of the bush stamped all over it. There is still the hallmark of excellent guiding for the night game drives and bush walks (one of only a few places allowed to undertake walks in big game country). As you drift off to sleep you may hear the sounds of lions nearby.

Day 3: Spend another day at Oliver’s Camp exploring Tarangire. Have great wildlife sightings as they are attracted to the Tarangire River. It has the second highest density of elephants in Africa and possibly the best lion and leopard opportunities in Tanzania. You can even have the option of taking a walking safari and night drive while there.

Day 4: Leave Tarangire and head up the Great African Rift Valley. Continue on up into the cloud forest of the Ngorongoro Highlands to stay at one of several luxury accommodations near the rim of the Crater. Along the way you can visit the Maasai village of Mto Wa Mbu. Here you will visit small villages, a Maasai boma (corral), see the Maasai tend their cattle, while nearby another tribe works their shamba (small scale village farm). You will visit the market, maybe a school and participate in other cultural activities.

Day 5: Today you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a game drive in one of the mostly densely packed wildlife areas in the world. Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcano (a caldera) that formed about 2-3 million years ago. Measuring just 100 square miles on the floor it also boasts one of the densest population of lions in the area. At the end of the day, ascend the rim again and stay at a luxury lodge on the rim.

Day 6: Today you will say goodbye to your guide who you will feel has become like a family member and take a flight to the northern Serengeti. There are several luxury camps here all providing the perfect location to explore and see the Great Migration.

Day 7 & 8: Continue to Explore the Serengeti for the next 2 days. You will be in a remote area that few people have the chance to explore. Your guide from your lodge has great knowledge of the area and will continue to enlighten you on wildlife and how everything fits together in the "circle of life."

Day 9: Take a light aircraft and fly over the Serengeti to the historic island of Zanzibar. A taxi will take you the short drive into the heart of old Stonetown where you will stay at Kisiwa House, a converted merchant’s house, dripping with history and character. Spend the afternoon exploring the intrigues of Stonetown on a guided walking tour we will provide for you.

Day 10: You will leave Stonetown and head up the coast for a few days at one of Zanzibar’s wonderful beaches. On the way we will arrange a spice tour for you. There are several accommodation options but the one we prefer is the elegant Unguja Lodge (FB). Comprised of special self-contained "cottages" each has its own private terrace overlooking Menai Bay. It is the perfect setting for a couple of days to relax and savor your African experience.

Day 11: Spend another day at Unguja Lodge (FB). You can swim, snorkel, take a sunset dhow cruise or just do nothing at all.

Day 12: Spend another day at Unguja Lodge (FB). Take a final stroll along the beach and savor all that you have done, all that you have seen, the people you have met and the memories you have that will last a lifetime.

Day 13: Today you will be transferred back to the airport at Stonetown for an internal flight to Dar Es Salaam and your international flight home.
