Feeding Giraffes-The Long and Short of It

Many eager Safari travelers have heard of Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, where well-heeled guests boast about feeding the resident giraffes through the windows. But guess what, we can take you to meet the giraffes for a lot less money at the Giraffe Center, right next door, where they are just as hungry — and just as tall!

  • 20 Years Ago Today

While it may have been 20 years ago today that Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play, another wonderful thing also happened 20 years ago today. On August 27th just before my 50th birthday I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain on the continent of Africa. It was a moving, spiritual experience to stand on the roof of Africa. The entire journey was amazing, from my incredible guide Geoffrey Moshi pushing me and motivating me to the summit, to the sunrise over…

As you know the Infinite Safari Foundation supports conservation, humanitarian and educational initiatives throughout Eastern and Southern Africa. We are proud to support the Women in Tourism Program in Zambia, created by the African Bush Camps Foundation. Many lack the training, networks,…

  • Solio Ranch – A Magical Place

After a couple of wonderful days in Nairobi it was time to head up to a very special, magical place. Solio Ranch which spans over 45,000 acres.  I am spending two wonderful, moving days here. The wildlife is amazing with huge herds of black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, eland, oryx, impala, hartebeest, jackals, ostrich and that was all this morning! The person who runs this place Kevin Carr-Harley is the most passionate conservationist I have ever had the pleasure to meet.  Including the tireless work he does managing this place he has also started…

  • Cuter than your kids or grandkids?

While not cuter than my granddaughter Rosie, I have to admit, “Bumpy” is a very close second! On May 2 Kenya Wildlife Service Vet and Capture team received reports of an infant orphaned hippo in Naivasha. They arrived to find a pint-sized calf nestled beside his mother’s lifeless body. He was found calling out to his mother and nudging her with his blunt little nose, desperately hoping for a response. The vets believe that she died of natural causes, likely…

  • The Third Edition of The Best African Safari Is Here

When I first traveled to Africa in 2000, I had no idea that one safari would change the direction of my life. The giraffes had me at “Jambo,” and I have been returning ever since. Over the years, I have answered thousands of questions from travelers planning their first safari: Where should I go? When is the best time to travel? Is it safe? What should I pack? What are the camps really like? And, of course, what happens when…
