Introducing Another Very Special Diane

Today’s post source comes from my wife Diane Haithman. Diane is the reason this whole safari business started because in 2000 when I told her I had 400,000 frequent flyer miles and we could go anywhere in the world it was Diane who said, “I have always wanted to go on a safari in Africa.”  Little did she know what that fateful decision would bring.

In 2025 Diane and I knew we would become grandparents to 15 month old Rosalie (who is already booked for her first safari in 2030). But another surprise recently happened. This week the 7th and final child to Patrick and Agnes Olepapatiti our Masai “son” was born in Kenya! While all the Olepapatiti kids are technically our “grandchildren,” this last one is extra special. When Patrick sent me a WhatsApp message about her birth he told me the baby’s name is ”Diane”, in honor of my wife. We were awestruck and deeply touched that she was named for Diane. We are so honored to welcome little Diane into the world and can’t wait to meet her!

  • Infinite Safari Adventures Partners With Wandr For Concierge Travel Medicine Service

When people go on safari with Infinite they always ask what shots are required or needed and what other medicine should they be bringing or taking. I tell them that while nothing is “required” they should consult with a doctor to discuss what they need based on their personal medical history. And we talk about getting Malarone or Doxycycline as a malaria prophylactic. While this advice has worked well, here at Infinite Safari Adventures we are always striving for a…

  • How to Visit Victoria Falls

A natural wonder of Africa, Victoria Falls is a must-see for many of my guests on safari. It is an incredible, breathtaking sight and one that should not be missed. Towering twice as tall as Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls is the dividing line between the countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Fed by the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls was given its modern name by explorer/missionary Dr. David Livingstone in honor of Queen Victoria in 1855.  Its original name is “Mosi-oa-Tunya” which…

  • Love in the Wild: A Proposal Blessed by a Silverback

As we say at Infinite Safari Adventures, if it can be done, we will make it happen. Our clients have enjoyed renewing wedding vows, taking cooking lessons, and celebrating bar mitzvahs in Africa. But sometimes our clients surprise even us. A few weeks ago, our lovely clients Laurie and Thom were in Rwanda to see the gorillas. Laurie had traveled with us several years ago with her daughter, who coined the term “the Elfie” (see below). Well, Thom surprised Laurie,…

  • Cuter than your kids or grandkids?

While not cuter than my granddaughter Rosie, I have to admit, “Bumpy” is a very close second! On May 2 Kenya Wildlife Service Vet and Capture team received reports of an infant orphaned hippo in Naivasha. They arrived to find a pint-sized calf nestled beside his mother’s lifeless body. He was found calling out to his mother and nudging her with his blunt little nose, desperately hoping for a response. The vets believe that she died of natural causes, likely…

  • RIP Craig

It is not every day that a country and the world mourns the death of an elephant, but Craig was no ordinary elephant. Craig was one of the last “Tusker” elephants with giant tusks measuring over six feet in length. Craig resided in the Amboseli area of Kenya where, as many of you know, Infinite Safari and its Foundation are very involved. While it is sad that Craig has passed, we can take solace in the fact that despite those…
