Tanzania – Where The Journey Began

25 years ago, when I told Diane we had enough frequent flyer miles to go anywhere in the world she said “I have always wanted to go on a safari in Africa.”  So, I planned (yes I am the obsessive planner in the family) a safari to Tanzania.  On our first game drive I saw Giraffes.  They had me at “Jambo” (Swahili for hello) and thus my love affair with Africa began.

15 years ago, the first Infinite Safari trip was launched in Tanzania.  It has been a few years since I have been back but while things have gotten bigger, while we have expanded to safaris in 12 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, Tanzania and most importantly its people still have my heart.  It truly felt like coming home.  I got to visit with some of our clients’ favorite guides, visit with our ground team (who are amazing), visit some new properties, and see some initiatives our foundation supports.

What was really fun was visiting Arusha National park because that is where I saw my first giraffe.  The first hour I was there I saw them again!  I swear one of them said Karibu Tena (Welcome back) Alan!

  • How to Visit Victoria Falls

A natural wonder of Africa, Victoria Falls is a must-see for many of my guests on safari. It is an incredible, breathtaking sight and one that should not be missed. Towering twice as tall as Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls is the dividing line between the countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Fed by the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls was given its modern name by explorer/missionary Dr. David Livingstone in honor of Queen Victoria in 1855.  Its original name is “Mosi-oa-Tunya” which…

  • Rosalie’s House

At Infinite Safari Adventures giving back is not optional. It is part of our responsibility. It is who we are. One of things that means is supporting the people who live alongside wildlife. And to better do that we started The Infinite Safari Foundation. We donate a portion of every safari booked to the foundation in our clients’ name. One of the initiatives we support is the Amani Foundation. It was created to keep families together, with a focus on…

  • “TENT” is Not a Four-letter Word in Africa

When new safari travelers ask me where they will be staying and I reply: “tented camps!” you can see their faces fall. You can tell they see themselves sitting on a bedroll on the hard ground, eating s’mores in the dark with the monkeys and mosquitoes. I quickly explain that in Africa, “tent” is not a 4-letter word. On our safaris, tents have comfy beds, hot showers, toilets that flush and wonderful camp staffers who come running with coffee or hot…

  • Meet Some Of The Kenyan Team

Some of you who have traveled with Infinite Safari in Kenya may recognize the two happy smiling faces in the photo. They are Starphor (on the left) a driver for my ground partner and Dennis (on the right) a guide. Why are they smiling? They are smiling because they love what they do, take pride in doing it and are happy when our clients are happy. I am always grateful as they take such great care of my clients and…

  • Another Generation To Pay It Forward test

In 2005 I met a young Maasai Moran (warrior) who had a dream of finishing high school and going to college. He so impressed me that I told him if he wanted to go to college I would help him do it. I had the honor of attending his graduation several years later. That man was Patrick Papatiti. Patrick’s life was changed and he now runs an anti-poaching unit in the Amboseli area of Kenya. We have been close ever…
