Hongera! (Congratulations in Swahili). What better way to start of your new life together but a honeymoon safari in Tanzania! This private custom safari for you and your new spouse has you going with your own guide out in the bush and allows for plenty of wildlife viewing throughout. It also affords you a unique opportunity for an authentic cultural visit with local Tanzanians. Then it takes you for several days to the exotic island of Zanzibar where you will stay at one of Zanzibar’s most stunning beach resorts with lots of activities at your disposal or simply relax and do nothing at all. This is a safari designed for you to fall in love with Africa – its beauty, its people and its wildlife.
Day 1 - On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha, Infinite Safari Adventures representatives will meet you and take you to Rivertrees Country Inn (BB), a luxurious converted old coffee farm a half an hour from the airport. This beautiful resort was the former home of the lodge owner. Here you will stay the night rest up and spend your first night as a married couple in Africa!
Day 2 –After a leisurely breakfast your guide will drive you to Tarangire National Park. Here you will stay at Tarangire Safari Lodge (FB). Located amongst the rugged baobab trees (sometimes known as the “upside down tree”) and boasting one of the best views in the park, you can view animals on their way to the river while sipping drinks from the veranda. Tarangire has the second highest density of elephants in Africa and it is not uncommon to have one wander into camp!
Day 3. Today you will spend another day in Tarangire National Park and all the wildlife there is to see – your experienced guide will take you to the best places to see elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest; and perhaps an elusive leopard or cheetah. Return at the end of the day to watch the sunset before heading off to dinner. Spend another night at Tarangire Safari Lodge (FB). You might even fall asleep to the sounds of lions off in the distance or close up! (But don’t worry there are Maasai guards posted around camp all night).
Day 4: This morning you will leave Tarangire and drive about 1 hour to the Great Rift Valley and the village of Mto Wa Mbu. Here you will visit small villages, and learn how they farm, live, educate their children and even make banana beer! You may visit the market, maybe a school and participate in other cultural activities. Tonight you will stay at Rhino Lodge (FB), a simple but reliable lodge set on the crater rim that is well situated for an early start tomorrow to Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 5: Today you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a game drive in one of the mostly densely packed wildlife areas in the world. Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcano (a caldera) that formed about 2-3 million years ago. Measuring just 100 square miles on the floor it also boasts one of the densest population of lions in the area. At the end of the day, ascend the rim again and stay at Rhino Lodge (FB).
Day 6. This morning you will be driven by your guide to a nearby airstrip. After saying goodbye to your guide, who by now will seem like a member of your family, you will fly off to the northern Serengeti. There you will be met by your driver from Sayari Camp (FB). This remote area has less visitors than the rest of the Serengeti. In August/September/October is a good place to be for the chance to witness the great wildebeest migration as they move from Tanzania into Kenya and back, crossing the famous Mara River as they go. It is a wildlife highlight as 10’s of thousands of wildebeest and Zebra accumulate to cross the river- attracting lions, hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, jackals and crocodiles. You will stay at the ultra-luxury Sayari Camp (FB). This permanent camp has all the benefits of camping, but with style, luxury and a pool. Your game drives are in the camp’s own open-topped safari vehicles with their own specialist guides who are expert at getting to see the best of this amazing spectacle.
Day 7. Spend a full day enjoying the Serengeti and the vast beauty that is the Serengeti. There is so much to see and do in the Serengeti that you could spend weeks here. Your guide will provide you with a wealth of facts on not only the wildlife, but the birds, plants and insects and how they are all intertwined in the “circle of life.” Tonight you will spend your final night in the Serengeti at Sayari Camp (FB).
Day 8. Today you will say a final goodbye to the Sayari Camp staff who will also feel like they are members of your family and take a light aircraft from the Serengeti to the historic and exotic island of Zanzibar. You will arrive in Zanzibar in the early afternoon. There you will be transferred about 90 minutes to Unguja Lodge (FB). Comprised of special self-contained “cottages” each has its own private terrace overlooking Menai Bay and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. It is the perfect setting for several days to rest, relax and savor your African experience.
Day 9. Spend a beautiful day at Unguja Lodge (FB). Relax on the beach. There are also several activities available to you throughout your stay. You can visit the local fishing village and learn how they build their homes, make rope, fish and live as a village, you can snorkel with dolphins, take a day trip into historic Stonetown and learn about its history, see its beautiful carved doors and wander its streets to shop and dine (we have several recommendations for you), you can dive or learn to scuba dive, take a sunset Dhow sail cruise or simply do nothing at all. Each day the choice is yours.
Day 10. Spend another beautiful day at Unguja Lodge (FB).
Day 11. Today is your last full day at this beach paradise. Celebrate your honeymoon with a final stroll on the beach and think about all of the amazing experiences you have had in Africa, the wildlife you have seen, the people you have met and experiences you have had and how you had the most amazing start to your marriage. Africa is now in your blood. Spend a final night at Unguja Lodge (FB). This evening reception will confirm with you your transfer tomorrow to the airport at Stonetown.
Day 12: Today is the day to say goodbye to Africa. You will be transferred back to the airport for a short internal flight to Dar Es Salaam and your international flight home. Depending on your flight time we can arrange a day room in Dar Es Salaam.
